This was my 4th run at this race and I've never finished higher than 3rd (last year) as they offer $250, $200 and $150 and go 3 deep for age groups. I know I'll always make back the entry fee and gas and maybe a little extra, but a win's tough here.
This year was cool and rainy and no one fast showed (no offense to anyone, but the truth is that I've run here with John Mortimer and other guys I'll never touch and done 15:31 for 6th.)
I took it easy the first 1/2 mile at a 5:18 pace as no one was with me and then went @5:09 the rest of the way for a 16:01. Felt like I'd just done an easy speed session at the end and left with $250.
I always go all out, but this week I've got 3 races (Thursday's 5 miler and Sunday's 10k) and I was being pragmatic. Still ran hard, but saved a little. Great week overall. I would have like to get to 80, but 75 is just fine.
