10.5 miles.
OK, so I was going to take at least 5 days off. Well, I took two and I'm climbing the freaking walls.
It's not like when I've just run a marathon and I'm dead tired and broken and time off is actually welcome.
I'm coming off 6 weeks of hot, 80 mile-per training and then to boot I had a 48 mile week last week. I'm so wired and ready to go it's ridiculous, so I had to get out and at least try out the "rested" leg.
Well, I can't lie, the first 6 miles, I knew it was there, but it didn't get worse and it didn't seize at any point. It was all between 6:51 and 7:10, so I was still doing the short stride, but for the last 1/2 mile, I was able to fully step and it felt good, not great, but good.
I ended up doing 2.5 more at the track as Corbin practiced and since I'd run some 3 hours prior, I was still warm and after a quick warmup mile, I proceeded to bang out a 5:49. I wasn't trying to go fast, just breathe and extend and it just worked out.
feel OK after it all. Iced after the first run and I think that's a key (duh.)
Tomorrow will tell the tale as to whether this was stupid or not.
Speaking of stupid, I signed up for the CVS 5k on Sept. 19th. 50th place last year was a 15:31 (by Rebecca Donaghue, as she came in 2nd to Yoder-Begley running 15:27.)
Should be a hoot if I can make it there in one piece.
