Starting the New Year with a killer run. Nothing yesterday between the blizzard and the scheduling, so I had to make up for it today. Gym was closed as they apparently are telling people to start their resolutions... tomorrow. Hmmm. So instead, I threw on the Brooks CC spikes I've worn for all of 2 Mayor's Cups and headed out to the ice and snow-packed roads. They dug in nicely for the 1st 8 as everything was solid and icy (18 degrees out with a nice 30 m.p.h. wind.) Of course, as strategy would have it, the last 4 miles took me onto mushier snow and the traction left me. I was firing easy for the first 6 and hitting 6:35's without much effort, and really was usually going faster, but the uphill ice was slowing me down considerably. I still managed to hold on for a 6:30 overall pace for 11 miles total and in these conditions, it made my legs feel like 18. I'm sore but I feel tough. Good stuff.
